Halloween 🎃👻

There are only four more days till Halloween and I have gathered some information about Halloween
here it is:

Halloween is an annual event celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween occurs on Wednesday this year. It originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to frighten off ghosts but why ward of ghosts if they just come back? Americans stole the English and Irish traditions, and began to dress up in costumes and go house to house asking for food or money, a practice that eventually became today’s “trick-or-treat” tradition.

In the late 1800s, there was a move in America to mould Halloween into a event more about community and neighbourly get-together than about ghosts, pranks and witchcraft. At the turn of the century, Halloween parties for both children and adults became the most common way to celebrate the day. Parties focused on games, foods of  the season and festive costumes.

Halloween has always been a event filled with mystery, magic and superstition. It began as a Celtic end-of-summer festival during which people felt especially close to deceased relatives and friends. For these friendly spirits, they set places at the dinner table, left treats on doorsteps and along the side of the road and lit
candles to help loved ones find their way back to the spirit world.

Autumn Poem By John Clare

The thistledown's flying, though the winds are all still, On the green grass now lying, now mounting the hill, The spring from the fountain now boils like a pot; Through stones past the counting it bubbles red-hot.

The ground parched and cracked is like overbaked bread, The greensward all wracked is, bents dried up and dead. The fallow fields glitter like water indeed, And gossamers twitter, flung from weed unto weed.

Hill-tops like hot iron glitter bright in the sun, And the rivers we're eying burn to gold as they run; Burning hot is the ground, liquid gold is the air; Whoever looks round sees Eternity there.
